Angela Brown

Quitman Independent School District
Quitman, Texas

Angela Brown entered the world of education later than most both as a student and teacher. She began college at thirty-five years old with three young children and a very supportive husband. She earned her BA and MA degrees in English from The University of Texas at Tyler. Afterward, she started teaching 6-8th grade writing at Yantis Junior High, and, for one semester, as an adjunct English teacher for Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant. After earning her principal and superintendent certifications, Angela worked as the Director of Student Services at Union Grove ISD in Gladewater for four years and taught as an adjunct for Kilgore College. When the high school assistant principal position became open at her local district, Angela went to Quitman ISD. After spending seven years in different administrative positions with QISD, she decided to return to the classroom in 2019 to teach the Honors English II, AP Literature and Composition, and dual credit English classes for Tyler Junior College. Her three children are all grown, and her husband of forty-one years is still supportive. Angela enjoys being back with the students in the classroom and looks forward to using the grant for classroom choice novels.
