P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School
Gainesville, Florida

I have been working at P.K. Yonge since 2005. In our school, I help students with the Spanish Language and many other extracurricular activities. Every year I gather a team of senior students that were or are currently my students to help me with the younger students. We teach the students how to do research, how to write and deliver poems and impromptus. We work together into teaching student about Global Culture and problems in the world and how they can get involved to help those in need (community service). Many of my students volunteer with the elementary school in teaching cultural presentations and how to do art that represents the Hispanic Culture. I created a program in our school, the Global Scholar, to recognize all the work that our students do with me during their high school time that has help them become more aware and respectful of other cultures and people. I always work very hard with my students to make sure that we are very inclusive. One of our recent projects for the Hispanic Honor Society Club has been the creation of our online newspaper this last school year.
