In the first episode of the NSHSS Scholars Connect Podcast, we sit down with James (Jim) Lewis, co-founder of NSHSS, to explore the story, vision, and purpose behind one of the world’s most global and inclusive academic honor societies. From its beginnings 20 years ago to the thriving international network it is today, Jim shares what inspired the creation of NSHSS, what continues to drive its mission, and why community is essential for the next generation of scholars.

Listeners will hear first-hand insights about supporting young people in a rapidly changing world, the importance of recognizing academic excellence early in life, and how opportunities, mentorship, and connection can shape a student’s future. This conversation offers a behind-the-scenes look at leadership, legacy, and the power of believing in young people and is a must-listen for students, parents, and educators alike.

The Nobel Legacy: Curiosity, Courage, and Contribution with Ludvig Nobel

In this episode of the NSHSS Scholars Connect Podcast, we sit down with Ludvig Nobel to explore the enduring legacy of the Nobel family and what it means for today’s students. While the Nobel name is often associated with extraordinary achievements, this conversation goes beyond prizes and prestige to focus on the values at the heart of the legacy: curiosity, courage, integrity, and contribution.

Ludvig shares personal reflections on growing up connected to a family legacy centered on global impact and responsibility, and how those principles continue to shape his perspective today. Together, we discuss why recognizing potential early matters, the role organizations like NSHSS play in encouraging young scholars, and how students can pursue excellence while staying grounded in purpose and service.

This episode invites students, parents, and educators to rethink success, embrace lifelong learning, and see legacy not as pressure, but as inspiration for meaningful contribution in an ever-changing world.

They emphasize the importance of community and cultural identity in their mission, aiming to rally support for Ukraine while honoring their heritage. The conversation highlights their collaborative efforts, the challenges of balancing activism with academic responsibilities, and the lessons they've learned along the way.
