NSHSS Member Event at Clemson University

On Saturday, March 23, NSHSS welcomed members and their families to Clemson, South Carolina, for a Member Event at Clemson University!

This one-day event included a networking breakfast, helpful information sessions from Clemson students and staff members, a College & Career Fair, and educational sessions. The event ended with the NSHSS Member Recognition Ceremony, where each member in attendance was honored and received an NSHSS medallion for their academic achievements!

Event Agenda

Attendees checked in with a digital or printed copy of their tickets, and members received name badges.

Attendees were able to gather information from College & Career Fair exhibitors. NSHSS will provided a catered continental breakfast for all event participants to enjoy while they speak to exhibitors and other members!

NSHSS welcomed attendees to campus; then, Clemson, Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, guided them through an informative presentation about the university.

NSHSS 2024 Educator of the Year Finalist Scott Tanaka discussed some quotes that inspire him and how they can be applied in everyday life to motivate students to fulfill their highest potential. 

The Director of Career Development at Clemson University gave an overview of the Clemson Center for Career & Professional Development and how students can take advantage of their resources during college to help them find and succeed in their future career

Attendees had the chance to gather information from College & Career Fair exhibitors, further explore the Clemson University campus, and visit nearby eateries for lunch on their own.

A panel of universities discussing their academics, campus life, admissions process, and what makes their school stand out, with live Q&A! Featuring the University of South Carolina, Appalachian State University, Regent University, and the University of North Carolina Wilmington

Attendees learned more about studying abroad, international programs, and more from the Clemson Center for Education Abroad!

Attendees heard from Clemson Army ROTC about the different avenues of becoming an Officer in the United States Army as well as the Army ROTC program.

NSHSS Members heard from Clemson University students about navigating campus life, choosing an appropriate major, and other general information about Clemson University.

Margot Miller, Program manager of NSHSS Intern Readiness Certificate Program, provided and insightful look into IRCP to help scholars prepare for a successful transition to the professional world. 

Members heard congratulatory remarks and received their own NSHSS honor medallion.

Meet the Speakers

Jim Rosemond

Clemson Undergraduate Admissions

Jim Rosemond is the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Clemson University. He obtained his Master’s degree in human resource development from Clemson in 2001 and has been employed in various positions within the Undergraduate Admissions office since 2003. Currently, he oversees diversity recruitment and other areas in admissions for Clemson. He has worked with many domestic students and parents from across the United States and internationally in China. His current assigned territories are Colorado and New Mexico recruitment. 

Morgan Vazquez

NSHSS Fellows President Emeritus & Trustee

Morgan Vazquez is the Global Head of Campus Recruiting at Wells Fargo. Formerly, she was the Head of Early Career Talent Acquisition and Programs at Walmart. In her role at the world’s largest retailer, Morgan led a team of over 30 Human Resources professionals who recruited high-potential, diverse early career talent for the enterprise and developed robust intern and new associate programs aligned with the company’s strategic business needs. Morgan joined Walmart in August 2020 from the Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon), where she was in a similar role as the Global Head of Campus Recruiting and Emerging Talent Programs. In her five years at BNY Mellon, she led the redesign of their campus recruiting function, focusing on attracting, developing, and retaining a strong pipeline of future leaders. Prior to BNY Mellon, Morgan spent six years at JPMorgan Chase in a variety of Human Resources roles.
Morgan is a graduate of Fordham University (Bronx, New York), where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Communications summa cum laude. Aside from being a passionate alumna at her alma mater and serving on the Fordham University Alumni Association Advisory Board, she is also the proud National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) Fellow. Furthermore, Morgan is a steadfast champion of Diversity & Inclusion and has been named to EMpower/Yahoo Finance’s list of Top 50 Ethnic Minority Future Leaders.

Julie Biggers

Clemson Center for Career & Professional Development

Julie Biggers is the Director of Career Development for the Clemson Center for Career & Professional Development. Julie has an undergraduate degree from Catawba College in Kinesiotherapy and a Master’s in Community Agency Counseling from Clemson University. She has worked with Clemson’s Center for Career and Professional Development Office for over 34 years.

Mark Samuelson

U.S Army Clemson ROTC

Mark Samuelson has been working with the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) for the past 10 years here at Clemson University.  He has also served with the National Guard for over 20 years and currently resides in Easley with his wife, Sarah, and daughters Mackenzie and Olivia.  

Jessica Golden, M.A.

Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad – Clemson University

Jessica Golden is a Study Abroad Coordinator with the Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad at Clemson University. Within the office, Jessica specifically advises students within the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences and the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences. They started their role at Clemson in June 2023 and are from Greensboro, North Carolina. Jessica studied abroad in Japan from 2018-2019 and enjoys talking about study abroad opportunities with students.

Scott Tanaka

NSHSS Educator of the Year 2024 Finalist

Scott is an educator at Minooka Community High School in Minooka, Illinois. He has been teaching high school mathematics for the past 25 years and has also served as a head basketball coach. Through his work with students both inside and outside of the classroom, Mr. Tanaka has often used various quotes to inspire and empower his students. At the event, he'll share some of those words of wisdom to hopefully also inspire all of you.  

Elise O.

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

Elise is the Outreach Coordinator for the Corporate Student Programs team at the CIA. She has been with the CIA since 2021. Prior to her current role, Elise served as a Targeting Officer in CIA’s Directorate of Operations. Before joining CIA, Elise spent four years at the National Security Agency. She is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and has a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. She enjoys being able to make a career out of demystifying CIA and educating students across the country on the various opportunities that CIA has to offer!
